Eligibility for Nigerian traders

Each prop firm decides which countries it serves and publishes the countries it excludes in its terms. The firms listed above do not name Nigeria on their restricted countries lists at present. Firms update these lists from time to time, so confirm that Nigeria is accepted at checkout and in the current terms on the day you buy. The name and address on your account should match your identity documents, because the checks before a funded account or first payout will test them.

Paying fees and receiving payouts

Challenge prices are often set in US dollars, and some Nigerian banks limit or suspend international spending on naira cards from time to time, so check your card's current foreign spending limit before you try to pay. Some banks also issue dollar cards linked to a domiciliary account. Payouts reach Nigerian traders by international transfer, through payment platforms such as Rise, or in stablecoins, depending on the firm. A dollar transfer can be received into a domiciliary account, and a stablecoin payout has to be sold before it becomes naira. The SEC has admitted some crypto platforms, which it calls virtual asset service providers, to a regulatory incubation programme, so check the status of any platform you use. Prop firm payout methods compares the main routes.

How prop firm payouts are commonly taxed in Nigeria

This is general information, not tax advice. The Nigeria Tax Act 2025 took effect on 1 January 2026 and replaced the Personal Income Tax Act. Under the new Act, the income of an individual resident in Nigeria is chargeable to tax wherever it arises and whether or not it is brought into Nigeria, so a payout from an overseas firm is within its scope. Payouts are paid by the firm under a contract rather than earned on assets you own, so they are commonly treated as income from a trade or business rather than as a capital gain. Personal income tax is collected by the internal revenue service of the state where you live, and the Nigeria Revenue Service, which replaced the Federal Inland Revenue Service, is the national tax authority. Record each payout in naira with the rate used, and check your position with your state revenue service or a qualified adviser. Prop firm income and tax explains the general principles.

What the SEC says

The Securities and Exchange Commission, Nigeria, said in a 2018 public notice that online retail forex trading was unregulated and that anyone taking part did so at their own risk. In September 2026 it published proposed rules on online forex and CFD trading under the Investments and Securities Act 2025. The draft would require online forex brokers, introducing brokers and technology or platform providers serving Nigerian residents, including offshore firms, to register with the SEC. It does not mention prop firms by name and is not yet final. The SEC also warns the public against unregistered online investment schemes, so read what a firm says about its own status before you pay. Are prop firms legit covers the wider checks.

Trading hours from Nigeria

Nigeria keeps West Africa Time, one hour ahead of GMT, all year, which lines up closely with London. London opens at 8am in the northern summer and 9am in winter, and US stock markets open at 2:30pm or 3:30pm. The London and New York overlap, usually the busiest period for major currency pairs and US indices, falls from about 1pm to 5pm, and the Asian session runs overnight. A daily reset at 5pm New York time falls at 10pm or 11pm, so check which trading day a late evening trade counts towards.

What to check before you buy

  • Nigerian eligibility. Confirm that Nigeria is accepted at checkout and in the current terms, not only in older reviews.
  • Card limits. Check the current international spending limit on your card before you pay, and whether a dollar card suits you better.
  • Payout route. Find out which payout methods are open to Nigerian residents, with their minimums, fees and timing.
  • Contracting company. Read which company you contract with, where it is based and what it says about regulation.
  • Daily reset time. Convert the daily loss reset to Nigerian time for both halves of the year.
  • Tax records. Keep a log of every fee and payout in naira from your first purchase.

Each firm's profile lists its programmes and restricted countries, and the comparison table can be filtered by country. The prop firm directory covers every firm on the site, other best prop firm lists group firms by platform and rules, and prop firm red flags sets out warning signs to look for before paying.

Questions about prop firms for Nigerian Traders

Can Nigerians buy prop firm challenges?

The firms listed on this page do not currently name Nigeria on their restricted countries lists. Eligibility is set by each firm and can change, so confirm it at checkout and in the terms on the day you buy. Payment is often the harder part, since some banks limit international spending on naira cards, so check your card before you start.

Why can I not pay for a challenge with my naira card?

Some Nigerian banks limit or suspend international spending on naira cards, and those limits change from time to time. Check your card's current foreign spending limit with your bank. Some banks issue dollar cards linked to a domiciliary account, and some firms take crypto, but check the fees and conversion costs of each route before you pay.

Do Nigerians pay tax on prop firm payouts?

Generally yes. Under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, in force from 1 January 2026, a resident individual is taxed on income wherever it arises, and payouts are commonly treated as trade or business income. Personal income tax is collected by the revenue service of the state where you live. This is general information, so check with that service or a qualified adviser.

Is prop trading regulated in Nigeria?

Not specifically. The SEC said in 2018 that online retail forex trading was unregulated, and in September 2026 it published proposed rules that would require online forex brokers and platform providers serving Nigerians to register. The draft does not mention prop firms by name and is not yet final. Read what each firm says about its own status before you pay.
