Challenge prices are often set in US dollars, so a card payment in cedis is converted at your bank's rate and may carry a foreign transaction fee. Check that your card is enabled for online and international payments. Payouts reach Ghanaian traders by international bank transfer, through payment platforms such as Rise, or in stablecoins, depending on the firm. The Bank of Ghana points to the Foreign Exchange Act, 2006, under which each transfer of foreign exchange to or from Ghana is made through a licensed money transfer business or another authorised dealer, and it has named money transfer organisations operating without its approval. Check that any service you use to receive a payout is approved, and remember that a stablecoin payout has to be sold before it becomes cedis. Prop firm payout methods compares the main routes.
This is general information, not tax advice. GRA says that a resident person's assessable income is that person's worldwide income from all sources, so a payout from an overseas firm is within its scope. Payouts are paid by the firm under a contract rather than earned on assets you own, so they are commonly treated as business income, which GRA describes as the gains and profits from a business, rather than investment income, although the right treatment depends on your circumstances. Income from each source is added together at the end of the year and taxed as one, and GRA says taxpayers must file a return no later than four months after the end of the year. Record each payout in cedis with the rate used, and check your position with GRA or a qualified tax adviser. Prop firm income and tax explains the general principles.
In a directive dated 23 June 2026, the Securities and Exchange Commission, Ghana said that any person owning or operating an online investment or trading platform that performs an activity the SEC licenses must obtain the appropriate registration or licence, and that anyone operating such a platform without approval must stop immediately. It also urged the public to check the authenticity of investment products and platforms advertised online through the SEC's official channels. The directive does not mention prop firms by name.
