This is general information, not tax advice. The BIR requires resident citizens who receive income from sources within or outside the Philippines to file an income tax return, so a payout from an overseas firm is within its reach. Payouts are paid by the firm under a contract rather than earned on assets you own, so they are commonly reported as income from a trade or business on BIR Form 1701, the return for self employed individuals, although the right treatment depends on your circumstances. The tax year follows the calendar year, the annual return is due by 15 April, and self employed individuals also file quarterly returns. Net taxable income is taxed at graduated rates, with the first 250,000 pesos at 0%, and self employed individuals whose gross receipts do not exceed 3 million pesos can instead choose a flat 8% on gross receipts above 250,000 pesos. Record each payout in pesos with the rate used, and check your position with the BIR or a certified public accountant. Prop firm income and tax explains the general principles.
