Funded Resets Explained: When Buying Back In Beats Starting Over
Some futures firms let you buy back a breached funded account instead of passing again. Here is when that is the cheaper route.
Losing a funded account usually means starting from scratch: buy a new evaluation, pass it, and wait for funding again. A few futures firms now offer a shortcut. Pay a fee and you get a fresh funded account straight away. It sounds expensive next to a $150 evaluation, but often it is the cheaper route. Here is how funded resets work and how to tell when one is worth it.
This guide is about resetting a funded account. Resetting an evaluation you are still trying to pass is a different thing, covered in our guide to resets and free retries.
What a funded reset is
A funded reset replaces a breached funded account with a new one of the same size. You skip the evaluation. What you lose is the progress on the old account: its profit, its trade history and, usually, any buffer you had built up. The new account starts at the original balance with a full drawdown.
Who offers them
| Firm | Accounts | Price | Window | Main conditions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tradeify | Select 50K, 100K, 150K | From $450 (50K, first use) | 30 days after breach | No payout ever taken on that account; two uses per account history |
| Topstep | Express Funded 50K, 100K, 150K (Back2Funded) | $599 (50K) to $829 (150K) | 30 days after the account closes | No payout ever taken on that account; up to two uses per account; TopstepX accounts only |
| Top One Futures | Elite sim funded 25K to 150K | $199 (25K) to $499 (150K) | 14 days after breach | Not on Instant accounts; profit above the starting balance is lost |

When a reset beats starting over
The fair comparison is not the reset fee against one evaluation. It is the reset fee against what it usually costs to get funded again, including the attempts that fail.
Firms that publish pass rates suggest roughly one evaluation in five or six is passed. Tradeify says 17.2% of its evaluation accounts pass. At that rate the average trader needs about six attempts to get through.
Take a Tradeify Select 50K, which costs $165 with the standard consistency rule:
- Starting over at an average pass rate: about six attempts at $165, roughly $960, plus the weeks it takes.
- Funded Reset: $450 for a first reset if you have taken no more than one payout, and you are trading funded the same day.
So for an average trader, the reset is cheaper. It flips if you pass most evaluations you take. If you pass one in two, getting funded again costs about $330 in evaluations, and the reset loses. Be honest about your own record. Your past pass rate is a better guide than the firm’s average.
Questions to ask before you pay
- Why did you breach? If it was one bad day, a reset makes sense. If your strategy does not fit the rules, a reset just buys you another breach. Our guide on avoiding a drawdown breach may help first.
- What do you lose? A buffer you built up and any progress towards a payout are gone.
- How long do you have? Windows are short, 14 days at Top One Futures and 30 at Tradeify and Topstep.
- Is the fee refundable? Usually not.
Key takeaways
- A funded reset swaps a breached funded account for a new one, without a new evaluation.
- Tradeify, Topstep and Top One Futures offer them; many firms, including Aqua Futures, do not.
- For a trader with an average pass rate, a reset is often cheaper than buying evaluations until one passes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you reset a funded prop firm account?
At some firms. Tradeify offers a Funded Reset on Select 50K to 150K accounts, Topstep sells Back2Funded for Express Funded Accounts, and Top One Futures offers resets on Elite sim funded accounts. Many firms, such as Aqua Futures, only allow resets during the evaluation.
Is a funded reset worth it?
Often, if your pass rate is close to average. With roughly one evaluation in six passed, getting funded again can cost six evaluation fees, which is usually more than a reset. If you pass most evaluations, buying a new one is cheaper.
Do you keep your profit after a funded reset?
No. The new account starts at the original balance. Profit, trade history and any buffer on the old account are lost.
