Topstep Adds $25K and $250K Live Funded Accounts
Topstep now has five live account sizes, from $25K to $250K. Here is how the money moves when you are called up.
Topstep has added two new sizes to its Live Funded Account, a $25K and a $250K, alongside the existing $50K, $100K and $150K. If you are trading an Express Funded Account and hoping to be called up to live, here is how the tiers work and what changes when you get there.
The five live tiers
| Live account size | Profit target to unlock each Reserve step | Daily loss limit |
|---|---|---|
| $25K (new) | $2,000 | $1,000 |
| $50K | $3,000 | $2,000 |
| $100K | $6,000 | $3,000 |
| $150K | $9,000 | $4,500 |
| $250K (new) | $15,000 | $5,000 |

How the money moves when you go live
Topstep sizes your live account from the average of your eligible Express Funded Accounts, rounded up to the nearest tier. The money transferred is then split:
- 20% is tradable straight away, with a minimum of $10,000, or $5,000 on the new $25K account.
- 80% goes into a Reserve. It is released in four steps of 25%, each time you hit your tier’s profit target as net profit since the last release. Topstep reviews this on Monday mornings and the money arrives within one to two business days.
So on a $50K live account you might start trading with around $10,000 and unlock the rest in four $3,000 profit steps.
The guard rails
- If your tradable balance falls to $10,000 or below, your daily loss limit drops to $2,000 and your maximum size to 5 contracts. At $5,000 or below, it is $1,000 and 3 contracts. These are updated on Fridays.
- If the balance falls below $1,000, the account may be closed at the end of the day and whatever is left paid out to you.
What the new sizes mean
The $25K tier gives smaller traders a live account with lower stakes: a $5,000 tradable start and $2,000 profit steps. The $250K tier does the opposite for traders who ran several large Express Funded Accounts, with $15,000 steps and a $5,000 daily loss limit.
Two things have not changed. You cannot turn down the call up and stay on your Express Funded Accounts, and all of them close once you move to live. Setting up the live account takes 7 to 10 business days.
How many traders get there?
Very few. Topstep’s own figures for 2025 say 0.71% of traders on an Express Funded Account were called up to live. Most Topstep traders are paid from their Express Funded Accounts and never trade live at all. Our guide to what happens when your firm moves you to live compares Topstep’s approach with other futures firms.
