Goat Funded Trader vs FTMO
Goat Funded Trader and FTMO set the same targets and 10% static limit on a $100K two step, but they differ on funded account rules, payout caps, refunds and platforms.
Goat Funded Trader suits traders who hold positions over weekends, want payouts processed within two business days and plan to scale one account through several levels towards a 95% split, and who can keep open losses small under its Goat Guard rule. FTMO suits traders who want the fee back with the first reward, no floating loss rule beyond the daily and maximum limits, no firm fee on withdrawals and platforms that include MetaTrader 4 and TradingView. On a $100K two step both firms set the same 10% and 5% targets and the same static limits, so the choice turns on funded account rules, payouts and platforms.

Rules and drawdown
The headline limits match. Both firms ask for 10% and then 5%, set a 5% daily limit and fix a 10% maximum loss from the starting balance, so a $100K account fails at $90,000. Neither applies a consistency rule on these products or sets a time limit, although Goat Funded Trader breaches an account with no trade for 30 consecutive days. The trailing vs static drawdown guide explains the fixed floor, and the drawdown calculator shows how much room remains after a losing run.
The daily limit is measured differently. FTMO deducts a fixed 5% of the initial balance from the balance at midnight Central European time. Goat Funded Trader resets at 5 pm EST from the higher of balance or equity, so open profit at the reset raises the floor for the next day. Goat Funded Trader counts a trading day only if it makes at least 0.5% of the initial balance, and needs three such days in each phase, while FTMO needs four trading days in each phase.
The funded stage is where Goat Funded Trader adds rules. Its Goat Guard cuts the split to 50% the first time combined floating losses on a funded challenge account reach 2% of the initial balance, and breaches the account the second time. Profit from trades held under two minutes is removed, profit is capped at $3,000 a day, and using more than 80% of available margin on one trade idea counts as gambling. FTMO has no equivalent floating loss tool. The soft breach vs hard breach guide explains how rules like these affect earnings without failing the account.
Both firms sell other routes. The Goat Funded Trader 2 Step GOAT costs $478 for $100K, with targets of 8% and 6%, a 4% daily limit and the same 10% static limit, and its 1 Step costs $530 with a 10% target, a 3% daily limit and a 6% static limit. The FTMO 1 Step costs €499, with a 10% target, a 3% daily limit, a 10% limit that trails the highest end of day balance and a 90% split.
News, holding and automation
News rules differ in scope. Goat Funded Trader allows news trading on challenge and funded accounts, but any trade opened or closed within five minutes of a red folder release, including stop loss, take profit and pending order fills, can earn at most 1% of the initial balance, and the excess is removed without a breach. FTMO places no restriction in the evaluation, but funded Standard accounts cannot open or close trades on affected instruments from two minutes before to two minutes after selected releases.
Weekend holding favours Goat Funded Trader. It allows overnight and weekend holding on every model, although on funded accounts profit from trades opened in the last three market hours on Friday and closed in the first three on Monday is removed. FTMO funded Standard accounts must close before the weekend unless the trader chooses the Swing account type on the 2 Step, which removes the rule at leverage of up to 1:30.
Automation is tighter at Goat Funded Trader. It allows the trader’s own compliant expert advisors, bans third party EAs, bans VPS use on step accounts bought from 12 August 2026 and prohibits hedging even within one account. Copy trading is allowed only between the trader’s own funded accounts. FTMO allows expert advisors if the strategy could be replicated in real markets, with a capital allocation limit of $400,000 per trader or strategy. See the hedging rules guide.

Payouts
Goat Funded Trader pays 80% on a 14 day cycle, with a $100 minimum, and each request must be for the full profit amount. On funded challenge accounts the first two payouts are capped at 6% of the initial balance or $10,000, whichever is lower, which is $6,000 on $100K. Requests are processed within two business days after identity checks, or the firm adds $1,000. Payouts go through Rise with no limit, or by Skrill up to $5,000, crypto up to $3,000 or bank transfer in selected countries. A paid add on allows an on demand first reward at a 40% split.
FTMO rewards can be requested from the 14th day after the first trade. FTMO reviews requests within one to two business days, typically sends funds within one to two business days of invoice approval and charges no commission. Methods include bank wire from $20, card payouts up to $20,000, Skrill and crypto. The payout calculator shows how the capped first payouts and each split compare.
The scaling plans differ in shape. Goat Funded Trader has four levels: after two months and four payouts it adds 15% of capital and lifts the split to 90%, and after six months and fifteen payouts it reaches 50% more capital and a 95% split, within a $400,000 maximum allocation. FTMO adds 25% every four months for traders with at least 10% net profit and two processed rewards, up to $2 million, and lifts the 2 Step split to 90%.
